The compact hatchback Peugeot 206 belongs to the European class B. It appeared in 1998 as a replacement for the Peugeot 205. The company originally planned to leave the 205th model without a successor, but the booming compact car market crossed out these plans. The model was produced at factories in England and France.
The first models were produced with a 3- or 5-door hatchback body and were equipped with 1.1 liter, 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter gasoline engines, as well as a 1.9-liter diesel engine. In 1999, a 2.0-liter GTi engine appeared, accelerating the car to 210 km / h. The sports version was called the Peugeot 206 RC. Despite the small size of the body, the interior turned out to be spacious, and thanks to the large glazing area, the car has good visibility.
In 1999, Peugeot introduced a specially prepared sports version of the 206 WRC, which successfully participated in the world rally championship. Since 2001, the release of two new versions began – 206 CC (convertible coupe) with a folding steel roof and station wagon 206 SW. In 2005, the world premiere of the sedan based on the 206th model, which is produced at the Iran Khodro plant in Iran, took place.
