Pontiac Torrent background information
Pontiac Torrent is a mid-size crossover manufactured by General Motors from 2006 to 2009. Replacing Aztek, Torrent was a slightly redesigned version of the first generation Chevrolet Equinox.
Torrent has the same basic body design and mechanical elements as the Equinox. However, Torrent has other front and rear parts, which visually distinguishes it from Equinox. The suspension has also been changed to become stiffer and sportier, and the electronic power steering has been calibrated to provide a stiffer and less artificial feel. The torrent, like the Equinox, had a 3.4-liter V6 with 185 hp. (136 kW) with 5-speed automatic transmission Aisin AF33.
As with other Pontiac models in the lineup, Torrent had an entry-level Base, mid-range GT and GXP-focused power. The GXP featured a more powerful 3.6-liter DOHC SFI V6 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, as well as a unique body kit and other exterior elements.
Pontiac Torrent was one of the prizes in the reality show Survivor in 2005, and in the show Magic by Chris Angela the same year.
