Chrysler Crossfire background information

The Chrysler Crossfire coupe appeared in the brand’s model range in 2003, and in 2004 an open version with a fabric folding top made its debut.

The car is the first model of the DaimlerChrysler concern, in which technical solutions from both the American and German companies were used. The first generation Mercedes-Benz SLK was taken as the basis for the creation of the Chrysler Crossfire, and the rear suspension was borrowed from the Mercedes E-Class. Even the production of cars was organized in Germany – at the Karmann plant in Osnarbück.

Chrysler Crossfire was equipped with Mercedes engines and gearboxes. The base model had a 218 hp V6 3.2 petrol engine under the hood. with., working in tandem with a six-speed “mechanics”. For a surcharge, buyers could order a five-speed automatic transmission. For a short time, the Crossfire SRT-6 was produced with a turbocharged version of the engine, developing 335 forces, and an automatic gearbox. All cars had rear wheel drive.

Prices for the Chrysler Crossfire coupe started at 49 thousand euros, and the model’s competitors were, for example, the Audi TT and Nissan 350Z.

The production of cars continued until 2007. A total of 76,000 coupes and roadsters were made.
