Suzuki Grand Vitara background information
Suzuki Grand Vitara is a compact crossover manufactured by the Japanese company Suzuki. Manufactured since 1997, in the domestic Japanese market known as Suzuki Vitara (Suzuki Escudo). In addition to the usual five-door model, there is also an elongated Grand Vitara XL-7 (Grand Escudo) and a shortened three-door.
The first generation (1998-2005)
The first generation was introduced in 1998. Technically, this car (known in the Japanese domestic market as the Escudo) was a frame crossover with all-wheel drive that connects, in a number of export markets there were diesel modifications.
The first generation Grand Vitara has a part-time all-wheel drive system, ie the front axle is rigidly connected manually at the request of the driver. Thanks to the use of a novelty – Drive Select 4×4 switch – all-wheel drive can be turned on or off on the go at a speed of not more than 100 km / h, the inclusion of downshift is possible only when the car is stopped.
In 2001, the model was modernized, changing the appearance and equipment.
Second generation (2005-2017)
In 2005, Suzuki introduced the second generation Grand Vitara. Unlike its predecessor, the car’s ladder frame has become integrated into the body, and all-wheel drive has become permanent. However, there is a locking axle differential and downshift transmission.
In the domestic Japanese market, the car is available in a number of special versions. Among them – Helly Hansen (created for outdoor enthusiasts in conjunction with the manufacturer of winter clothing), Salomon (features chrome panels), Supersound Edition (with premium audio system) and FieldTrek (the most prestigious equipment, there are railings and sunroof, xenon head optics).
