Suzuki Equator background information
The Suzuki Equator is a pickup truck based on the Nissan Frontier and manufactured by Nissan. The model was first introduced at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show and was sold in the United States starting with the 2009 model year.
The Equator was offered with a single or double cab, with the former offering four seats and the latter five. In Canada, the model was only offered with a crew cab and one trim level.
The basic models with a single cab were powered by an in-line four-cylinder engine. A V6 was optionally available for this, which was also installed in all models with a double cab. Both engines came from Nissan.
The entry-level engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters delivered 112 kW at 5200 rpm and 171 Nm at 4400 rpm. Power was sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic.
The six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 4.0 liters provided 192 kW at 5600 rpm and 281 Nm at 4000 rpm. It was always paired with all-wheel drive and a 5-speed automatic.
With Suzuki’s withdrawal from the North American market in 2012, production of the Suzuki Equator was also discontinued.
