Scion xA background information
The compact five-door Scion xA hatchback, which debuted in 2003, was one of the first two models of the new brand created by Toyota specifically for the American market. The brand was launched with an eye on young shoppers who wanted to offer small, modern looking cars at a reasonable price.
The Scion xA was an exact replica of the first generation Japanese Toyota Ist, both produced in Japan. The car was based on the Toyota Vitz front-wheel drive platform. The only power unit is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 108 horsepower (later 103 hp), it was equipped with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed “automatic”.
In 2005, the model underwent a barely noticeable modernization: the car’s bumpers were slightly updated, the choice of colors expanded, and a connector for iPod players was added to the package (Scion was one of the first cars in the world with this option). In 2006, hatchback production ended, and the Scion xD replaced this model.
Hatchback prices started at $ 12,500. About 20-30 thousand of these cars were sold annually in the USA.
