Dodge Magnum background information
The Dodge Magnum is a sign used by several Dodge cars to denote a large coupe manufactured in the United States from 1978 to 1979, and to denote a rear-wheel drive station wagon manufactured from 2004 to the end of 2008 and assembled at the Brampton Assembly plant nearby. Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
1st generation, 1978
The Magnum name appeared in the Dodge brand lineup in 1978. This was the name of a large rear-wheel drive coupe, equipped with V8 engines of 5.2, 5.9 and 6.6 liters. The car was produced in Canada until 1979.
2nd generation, 1979
The second-generation Dodge Magnum was made in Brazil for the local market. It was, in fact, an expensive version of the Dodge Dart. The car, offered only with a coupe body, was equipped with a 5.2-liter V-8 engine.
3rd generation, 1981
Once again, a car with the name Dodge Magnum began to be produced in 1981 – this time in Mexico. It was a rear-wheel drive, two-door coupe powered by a 300-hp 5.9-liter V-6 engine. With. The car was offered only on the local market for only two years.
4th generation, 1983
The next-generation “Mexican” Magnum, which debuted in 1983, received a new front-wheel drive platform. A 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, including turbocharged, was installed on the car.
5th generation, 2005
In 2005, the Dodge Magnum returned to the American market. The station wagon-only car was based on the Chrysler LX platform and, with the exception of the front end design, was similar to the Chrysler 300C station wagon. Several gasoline engines were offered for the Dodge Magnum: V6 2.7 (190 hp), V6 3.5 (250 hp) and V8 5.7 with 340 hp. The standard wagon was rear-wheel drive, but for an extra charge (except for cars with a 190-horsepower engine) it was possible to order an all-wheel drive transmission. The car was completed with a four-speed or five-speed automatic transmission, depending on the modification. At the end of 2005, the model range was replenished with a “charged” modification of the Dodge Magnum SRT-8, under the hood of which there was an eight-cylinder power unit with a volume of 6.1 liters, developing 425 hp. With.
In 2007-2008, the Chrysler concern found itself in a difficult financial situation, and one of the measures to overcome the crisis was the reduction of the model range, which also affected the Dodge Magnum. Station wagon production at a plant in the Canadian province of Ontario ended in 2008.
