Here is a little history of the BMW 7-Series E65/E66
E65 / E66 is the factory index of the BMW 7 Series bodies produced from 2001 to 2008. These models replaced the previous E38, which was produced from 1995 to 2001.
The E65 / E66 was first introduced in 2001 in Munich. The car was designed by Chris Bangle. Cars have noticeably “grown-up”. It is claimed that the new family of “seven” demonstrated the look of BMW models of the early XXI century. For the first time, BMW engines are equipped with the latest hydromechanical 6-speed “automatic” from ZF, and (again for the first time for BMW) control of the box is placed on the selector located on the steering column, which can be touched without removing the steering wheel. In addition, for “manual” control of the box in Servotronic mode are 4 buttons on the steering wheel. The BMW 7 family is full of interesting technical components and units. From now on, the handbrake has become electronic and is switched off by a button. All cars are equipped with a hydraulic stabilization system DSC, adaptive cruise control ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), active anti-roll bars Dynamic Drive, a unique information centre Idrive and much more. Each model is literally “stuffed” with different electronics and electromechanics.
The base model has the in-house designation E65, the version with an enlarged wheelbase (distance between the front and rear wheel axles) has the factory index E66, and in the marking for sale will be marked with the letter L (eg 740i and 740Li).
In 2005, the E65 / E66 family of cars was modernized, which affected the appearance and engine lineup.
In 2008, the E65 / E66 family of cars was replaced by the more modern F01 / F02 family.
