Isuzu Bighorn background information

1st generation – 1981

The Isuzu Bighorn SUV was launched in Japan in 1981. The car, which originally had the name Rodeo Bighorn, had a three-door body – with a metal or fabric top, and in 1985 a five-door modification appeared. In 1987, the model was modernized, with the main focus on comfort.

Isuzu Bighorn in the USA and Europe was called Isuzu Trooper, in Australia – Holden Jackaroo, and in the Japanese market it was also sold under the name Subaru Bighorn. In addition, a licensed copy of the model – SsangYong Korando Family was produced in Korea.

2nd generation – 1991

The second generation Isuzu Bighorn, introduced in 1991, became a larger, less utility vehicle. The power units became more powerful: the V6 3.2 gasoline engine developed 200 hp. with., and a four-cylinder turbodiesel with a volume of 3.1 liters – 125-135 liters. with. Later they were replaced by a petrol 3.5-liter V6 (230 hp) and a three-liter turbodiesel (160 hp). Gearboxes – five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Like its predecessor, the second Isuzu Bighorn had a plug-in all-wheel drive, but over time, the car had a system for automatically distributing torque between the axles.

The SUV was exported under the name Isuzu Trooper, in addition, it had the names Honda Horizon (in Japan), Acura SLX (in the USA), Opel Monterey (in Europe), Vauxhall Monterey (in the UK), Chevrolet Trooper (in South America). and Africa), Holden Jackaroo and Holden Monterey (in Australia).

Production of the Isuzu Bighorn in Japan ended in 2002.
