Cadillac ELR background information
The Cadillac ELR hybrid coupe began selling in the US and Canadian markets in December 2013. The model was not exported to other countries.
The car was equipped with a power plant from the first generation Chevrolet Volt model: a 1.4-liter gasoline engine (84 hp), a motor-generator (75 hp) and a traction electric motor with a peak power of 184 hp. With. Electrical energy is stored in underfloor lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 16.5 kWh. In pure electric mode, the Cadillac ELR can travel up to 60 km.
In 2015, the model was upgraded. The peak output of the traction motor increased from 184 to 237 forces, which made the car more dynamic. Also, the battery capacity increased slightly (up to 17.1 kWh), suspension and steering settings were changed, and the choice of options expanded.
For an additional fee, starting in 2015, customers began to be offered a Performance Package, which included a retuned suspension with adaptive dampers, four-piston Brembo brakes on the front axle, larger brake discs, twenty-inch wheels instead of the standard nineteen-inch ones, “moved” from 170 km / h to 209 km / h electronic speed limit, as well as a different steering wheel.
A car with an attractive design and a prestigious brand was supposed to compete with Tesla to some extent. However, the demand for the car turned out to be scanty, which is why in 2015, along with the modernization, there was a noticeable decrease in the price of the Cadillac ELR – from 67.5 to 58.5 thousand dollars. However, this did not help to increase sales in any way, and in February 2016 the release of the model was completed. As a result, less than three thousand copies of the model were sold in the USA in two and a half years.
