Chevrolet Volt background information

Chevrolet Volt (Chevy Volt) – a hybrid car with the ability to recharge from a General Motors outlet. The car is capable of driving in electric mode for about 65 km.

The first generation (2010-2015)

The Chevrolet Volt hybrid is based on a new family of hybrid systems, the Voltec. Voltec generates electricity on board from fuel cells or other sources.

General Motors used the technology used in the EV1 electric car to develop the Volt.

The Chevrolet Volt can be fitted with a variety of engines, such as E85 (85% ethanol and 15% petrol), E100 (100% ethanol) or biodiesel.

The Chevrolet Volt is equipped with a 111 kW electric motor with a torque of 320 Nm. Lithium-ion batteries with a peak power of 136 kW. Charging time from 110 volts – 6-6.5 hours, from 240 volts – 3-4 hours. Acceleration to a speed of 60 mph 8.0-8.5 s. Top speed – 161 km / h. Volt operates in electric vehicle mode until incomplete discharge (30% of battery capacity). The car is equipped with an electric generator powered by an internal combustion engine with a capacity of 62 kW, volume 1.4 liters, 4 cylinders.

Fuel tank – 45 liters. This fuel and a full charge of batteries is enough to run 1000 km (640 miles). Batteries also store recuperative braking energy. The cost of 100 miles will be $ 2.75. The hybrid is able to travel in electric car mode for about 65 km.

In the version with fuel cells on board instead of the internal combustion engine, the fuel tanks store 4 kg of hydrogen.

Second generation (2016–2019)

In 2016, the Chevrolet Volt was completely revamped. This car combines high-quality interior and exterior, batteries with increased power and better fuel economy, as well as the integration of Apple’s CarPlay iPhone. The 2016 Volt is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 101 hp. Also, this Chevrolet is equipped with a generator that produces energy for the engine when the 18.4 kW / h battery is discharged after 80.47 km. Volt movement is provided by 2 electric motors with a capacity of 149 hp. The good news is that this car can now be refueled with regular unleaded petrol. A full charge takes about 4.5 hours with a 240-volt charger or about 13 hours with a standard 120-volt charger. The basic equipment of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt LT includes: luxury features, ignition button, automatic climate control, keyless car opening, OnStar software with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.
