Porsche 959 background information
Porsche 959 is a sports car of the German company Porsche.
The car was developed in the style and concept of the classic Porsche 911 in the first half of the 1980s as part of the 959 project. The production of one Porsche 959 cost twice as much as the amount for which it was sold. The release of this model did not bring the company direct financial benefits. But despite this, 959 refreshed the brand’s image, brought to its coffers victory in the Paris-Dakar Rally, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and undoubtedly attracted thousands of new people to the ranks of its supporters around the world. The Porsche 959 is rightfully the most technological and advanced car of the 80’s: Sports Car International named it the best sports car of the 80’s, and Auto, Moto und Sport considers it the best Porsche of all time.
The car was equipped with a set of complex and rare at the time technical solutions, such as: double parallel-series turbocharging, hydropneumatic suspension with three ground clearance modes, all-wheel drive on demand with two-channel electro-hydraulic control system, 6-speed manual transmission, adjustable saloon 4-channel ABS, tire pressure monitoring system, driver information system, composite body panels. For its time it was one of the most expensive production cars – 420,000 DM (with 15% VAT).
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km was 3.7 s, 0-160 km / h 8.3 seconds, and top speed 317 km / h.
Due to the lack of a significant number of known accidents, it is likely that most of the released Porsche 959 is still on the move, and they themselves are stored in various private collections. Several cars are in the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen.
