Porsche 924 background information
The Porsche 924 is a sports car manufactured by Porsche from 1976 to 1988.
Originally developed by Volkswagen as the successor to the VW-Porsche 914, it was released as Porsche’s own model, occupying a niche of entry-level sports cars. For Porsche AG, the 924 was a revolution: the front-mounted liquid-cooled engine and the Transaxle transmission with spaced engine and gearbox were not previously used in cars of this brand.
In addition to production cars, purely racing variants were produced (Carrera GTS, Carrera GTP, Carrera GTR), which took part in the 24-hour Le Mans race and in the World Sportscar Championship.
Often, due to its close relationship with Volkswagen cars, the Porsche 924 is not considered a full-fledged Porsche sports car. However, in the 2010s, this car began to be recognized as “classic”.
