For the first time a car in the version of the roadster body (“918 Spyder”) was presented as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010. It took only five months to develop the Porsche 918 concept mid-engine, from the first sketches to the construction of the working model. The car is built on the platform of the racing Porsche RS Spyder and for every 100 kilometers consumes, according to the manufacturer, only 3.0 liters of fuel.
On June 18, 2013, Porsche announced the official specification of the Porsche 918 Spyder. The total output of the car’s power plant is 887 hp. Only from the atmospheric engine V8 4.6 liters received 608 hp (or 132 hp per liter is a record for Porsche naturally aspirated engines). This was achieved both by optimizing the entire structure and by increasing the speed to 9150 rpm. The company of internal combustion engines consisted of electric motors: rear with a capacity of 115 kW and front with a capacity of 95 kW.
The length of the machine is 4643 mm. The curb weight is about 1675 kg in the base configuration and about 1640 kg with the Weissach package.
The maximum speed of the model exceeds 340 km / h, acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour takes 2.8 seconds, up to 200 and 300 the car accelerates in 7.9 and 23 seconds, respectively.
In June 2012, Porsche received more than a thousand pre-orders for the 918, but the manufacturer said that the release is limited to only 918 copies of this model. Porsche gives a 4-year warranty on the car itself and a 7-year warranty on the electric battery.
The base price is € 768,026, which is more than the price of the company’s most expensive production road car – the Porsche Carrera GT.
