Mercury Montego background information
Mercury Montego – a passenger car of the upper class, and then a full-size car, produced under the American brand Mercury in the years 1967 – 1976.
First generation
Mercury Montego I was presented for the first time in 1967.
In the second half of the 1960s, Mercury introduced the new Montego model, which completed the brand’s offering as a smaller and cheaper alternative to full-size models such as Monterey.
The car was characterized by a massive, angular body silhouette, clearly marked fenders and accentuated wheel arches. The front belt was decorated with double, round headlights, as well as narrow, vertically placed lamps. A chrome embossing ran through the side panels.
Second generation
Mercury Montego II was presented for the first time in 1971.
The second generation of Montego, presented in the early 1970s, became a much larger model based on the new platform of the Ford concern. Mercury used the technique of the Ford Elite and Ford Torino models, giving the Montego a massive angular silhouette with narrowly spaced round headlights.
