Here is a little history about BMW X5 E53
The BMW E53 is the first generation of the BMW X5, which was produced from 1999 to 2006.
At the end of 1999, the X5 went on sale in the US market, and early 2000 – in Europe (E53 body). The BMW X5 E53 was developed at a time when the BMW Group already owned the Land Rover brand and as such has many common components and design with the Range Rover L322, including the Hill Descent and Off-Road system, as well as engines and electronic systems from the BMW E39. Unlike the Range Rover, the first X5 was designed as a sports car, and its off-road capabilities are significantly less than that of the Land Rover.
Initially, it was equipped with only a 4.4-litre engine, which has a good “economy” – in a mixed cycle of 13.9 litres per 100 km. But then it was joined by a model with the latest in-line 6-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.0 litres, created based on a 2.8-litre unit. In 2000, the Geneva Motor Show presented an experimental model – a super SUV X5 “Le Mans”. To clearly demonstrate the limits of the capabilities of their jeep on the asphalt, the designers placed under its hood V12 from a racing car that raced in Le Mans. The engine develops 700 hp, and the chassis remained virtually unchanged. Only the body sits three inches below the “+” stiffer suspension. All this is necessary because the maximum speed of the car reaches 278 km / h. If the car looks very similar to the production model, the metamorphosis of the interior is radical. Even the rear passengers sit in deep anatomical seats. Polished aluminium reflects cold around. Even the steering wheel is made of it. However, it is not possible to buy the X5 “Le Mans”, because it was created in a single copy… However, after a successful premiere, it was decided to produce another X5.
A novelty at the Detroit Motor Show in 2001 was the “charged” SUV X5 4.6is or X5 HP, which is equipped with the latest 4.6-litre V8 engine with 347 hp and 354 Nm of torque. Externally, the new X5 differed from the standard more aggressive look. In the base version, this model was equipped with 20-inch 5-spoke discs and rubber: 275/40 front and 315/35 rear, as well as a 5-speed automatic transmission Steptronic.
