For the first time, a completely new model with the Soul name was presented at the Paris Motor Show by Kia in the fall of 2008, although as a concept the car debuted in 2006 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The car is built on the same platform with the Hyundai i20. The overall dimensions of the hatchback are not quite the usual form are small – 4105x1785x 1610 mm, the wheelbase is 2550 mm, the track – 1570/1575 mm. However, the aggressive design visually enhances the car: a massive front part with a narrow air intake slot, black front struts and a window line with a reverse tilt of the rear struts, as well as markedly widened wheel arches and high ground clearance – 165 mm.
The car received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for its unusual design. The international jury assessed the car according to nine criteria: novelty, functionality, workmanship, ergonomics, durability, emotional impact, additional features, ease of operation and environmental friendliness.
Distinctive features and brightness of the Soul exterior are given by the proposed non-standard body trim options: sporty stripes or airbrush patterns. The proposed list of options is unusually extensive: wheel arch extensions, bumpers of various shapes, extravagant alloy wheels measuring 16 or 18 inches, chrome parts, roof rack, bike rack, net for securing cargo, detachable hitch.
Bright and attractive, functional and spacious, reliable and economical, the Kia Soul is great for everyday use in urban environments.
