GMC Jimmy background information
The GMC Jimmy is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) manufactured by GMC in the USA. Production of the GMC Jimmy began in 1983 with the GMC Jimmy S-15. The S-15 Jimmy was based on the same platform and went through the same technical revisions as the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer and the Oldsmobile Bravada. The Jimmy was powered by the 4.3-liter V6 engine known from the Chevrolet Blazer.
There was also the larger K5 Jimmy, based on the Chevrolet K5 Blazer.
From 1992 to 1993 a more powerful version with a 4.3 l V6 turbo engine with 209 kW was marketed as the GMC Typhoon.
In 1993 the K5 was replaced by the GMC Yukon and the suffix “S-15” disappeared from the name S-15 Jimmy, and in 1995 the GMC Jimmy was fundamentally revised both technically and in design. From 1998 to 2000, a luxury version of the Jimmy was also offered as an Envoy. In the last production year 2000–2001, a Diamond Edition with a higher quality equipment was launched instead. In 2001 production of the GMC Jimmy was discontinued. The successor model was again offered as the GMC Envoy, but this time as the name of the basic model.
