Oldsmobile 88 background information
Oldsmobile 88 is a series of American full-size cars produced from 1949 to 1999 by Generalsors’ Oldsmobile division.
In the model line of the division, it occupied the position of a massive full-size entry-level model, which is one step below the “luxury” series Oldsmobile 98.
In different years under this name were produced fundamentally different from a technical point of view cars, in particular, repeatedly changed the platforms used by the series: for example, from 1959 to 1976 it used the B-body platform, in 1977-85 – a version of the same B-body with shortened wheelbase, and since 1986 – front-wheel drive H-body.
At one time in the “88” series there were a large number of individual models: Delta, Dynamic, Jetstar, Starfire, Super, Holiday, L / S, LSS, Celebrity, and Royale; as a result the designation of the car looked, for example, as Oldsmobile Delta 88.
Oldsmobile 88 cars were manufactured in factories in Wentsville, Missouri; Flint, Michigan; and Lake Orion, Michigan.
