MG 3 Background Information
MG3 is a supermini car manufactured by SAIC Motor under the MG brand, in two generations since 2008.
The first generation
The first generation MG3 SW, essentially an analogue of Rover Streetwise, production of which was discontinued in April 2005 after the bankruptcy of the predecessor of MG Rover. Production of the model began in 2008 by SAIC at a Chinese plant in Pukou, Nanjing.
Sales of MG3 SW take place only in the Chinese market.
The second generation
The new MG3 was presented in 2010 at the Beijing Motor Show as a concept car MG Zero. The car went on sale in China in the spring of 2011. The line of engines will include gasoline engines: 1.3-liter with 67 hp. (50 kW), 1.5-liter 107 hp (80 kW) and 1.5-liter Turbo 165 hp. (123 kW). However, in the summer of 2011, the 1.3-liter variant seemed to have disappeared from the range, and the turbo has not yet debuted in 2012. The engines available at the start (March 2011) were supercharged with 1.3 and 1.5 VTi, with 65 kW (87 hp) and 80 kW (107 hp) respectively. The new MG3 will go on sale in the UK in 2012. It will be manufactured at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham next to the large MG6.
The new MG3 is also available as a crossover (similar to the Rover Streetwise and MG3 SW), known as the MG3 Xross.
Although the MG3 is considered a budget car, it clearly does not look like that. The exterior of the hatchback is quite attractive with a perfectly balanced body, partially reminiscent of the Dacia Sandero or the more common Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, or Volkswagen Polo. Standard components include high rear elongated taillights, front drop-shaped fog lights and curved front struts, borrowed from the MINI hatchback. The long-wheelbase combined with the short overhangs gives the car a sporty look. Dimensions of MG 3 are equal: length – 4016 mm, width – 1727 mm, height – 1519 mm, wheelbase – 2520 mm. The car is equipped with 15-inch wheels.
