MG 6 background information
MG 6 is a mid-size passenger car produced by the Chinese manufacturer SAIC Motor under its MG brand, based on Roewe 550 and, in part, Rover 75 It was first presented in April 2009 at the Shanghai Motor Show with a 5-door hatchback body and in October 2010 at Shanghai Expo with a 4-door sedan body.
The hatchback, indexed MG6 GT, went on sale in the UK in May 2011, and the sedan, the MG6 Magnette, on 16 July 2011.
As with the Roewe 550, most of the development was carried out by the British MG Motor UK Technical Center. In China, serial production began in 2010, and from April 13, 2011 (in the form of CKD) – in the UK. In the future, at the same plant in Birmingham, it is planned to start assembling the MG 3 supermini.
The number of cars assembled in Great Britain was supposed to be brought to the level of 2000-3000 units per year. Prices for the MG6 GT hatchback will range from £ 15,495 to £ 18,995, and the sedan up to £ 20,000. Technically, the sedan is completely identical to the hatchback except for the bodywork.
The Magnette index was previously used by MG – in the 1930s for MG K-type models and in the 1950s and 1960s for sedans.
Characteristics
The vehicles are equipped with a 1.8 liter TCI-Tech petrol engine of two types: 133 hp. from. (98 kW) and 160 hp. from. turbocharged (118 kW), and only the latter is offered in the UK. All models are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic (Tip-Tronic) from the Japanese manufacturer “Aisin”, a MacPherson-type front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. Turbocharged cars can accelerate to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 205 km / h to reduce insurance premiums.
The MG6 GT hatchback has four trim levels, differing in trim and optional equipment.
Standard colors are Pitch Black, Arctic White and Regal Red, metallic (£ 395) – Union Blue, Platinum Silver, Granite Gray and Burnt Orange. At the UK presentation, trim prices were: S – £ 15,495; SE – £ 16,995; TSE – £ 18,995. In 2012, a 1.9-liter diesel engine is expected to be introduced.
