Cadillac Escalade background information

In 1999, the first Escalade model was released in response to the cars of German and Japanese concerns, because at that time Ford was already producing the Expedition model, and Lincoln the Navigator model. The first Escalade came off the assembly line just 10 months after its design was approved, but it was not a brand new car, but a redesigned model of the GMC Yukon Denali. And only the details of the cabin and the front of the car were changed. The first escalators were built at a factory in Arlington, Texas, USA.

Cadillac Escalade at that time competed with Range Rover, Infiniti QX, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus LX, Toyota Land Cruiser, Lincoln Navigator.

The first generation of Escalade is built on the GMT400 platform and was produced exclusively with a five-seater body. All the efforts of GM and Cadillac to promote the first generation were in vain, because in its size Escalade lost to its only competitor in the US market – Navigator. After two years of trying, the Escalade model was sent to GM for revision to “rid” it of dependence on GMC Yukon Denali and release a completely independent luxury SUV. The first generation was equipped with the same components and units as the GMC Yukon Denali: 5.7-liter Vortec V8 5700 255 hp engine. (190 kW), which was clearly less powerful than the 300-horsepower Lincoln Navigator engine, was equipped with an Autotrac selectable 4×4 all-wheel drive system, automatic 4-speed 4L60-E gearbox. The front suspension is two-lever torsion, the rear – dependent spring. The cabin was much more pleasant than the GMC Yukon Denali – leather seats with the logo of the Cadillac Bose speaker system, white dashboard and speedometer, graduated to 120 mph.

According to research by the Highway Loss Data Institute, the first-generation Cadillac Escalade has become the most popular jeep hijacker in America.

Escalade EXT is a pickup truck released with its 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche counterpart, General Motors Cadillac.

The pickup is equipped with a composite cab Convert-a-Cab, removing which can be transformed into a truck with folding sides. Like the Avalanche model, the EXT model has four full-size doors and is designed for five seats. EXT is only available with a 6.0 L V8 High Output engine. Xenon headlights were proposed in 2003. Escalade EXT, along with CTS, starred in The Matrix: Reboot (product placement). Escalade EXT pickups are manufactured only at the plant in Silao, Mexico.

Escalade EXT (based on Cadillac Escalade) was created as a direct competitor to the pickup Lincoln Blackwood (based on the Ford F-150). It also competed with the recently discontinued Lincoln Mark LT (another model based on the F-150 pickup), making its debut in 2006. The Cadillac Escalade EXT competes with the Ford F-150 Platinum.
