Subaru Leone background information
Subaru Leone is a compact car manufactured by the Japanese car manufacturer Fuji Heavy Industries, manufactured from 1971 to 1994. The word Leone translated from Italian means lion.
It was released as a replacement for the Subaru 1000 and was the predecessor of the Subaru Impreza. All Leones were equipped with the opposite Subaru EA engine. Most cars were equipped with four-wheel drive.
In Japan and some export markets, the car was called the Leone, for many years it was the only Subaru car sold on the international market. In some markets, such as Australia, Europe and North America, it was named after the level of equipment, namely: DL, GL, GLF, GLF5, GL-10 and RX. Therefore, the car is often referred to simply as the Subaru GL or Subaru L-series.
