Isuzu Ascender background information

The Isuzu Ascender was an SUV manufactured by General Motors in the United States from 2003. Initially there was only a 7-seater variant that replaced the Isuzu Trooper and was basically an Isuzu-branded GMC Envoy. A 5-seater was also introduced in the 2005 model year as a successor to the Rodeo and Axiom models. From this year there was also a V8 with cylinder deactivation. Isuzu once offered a full lineup of cars, trucks, and SUVs, but the Ascender was the brand’s last passenger car for sale in the US until the introduction of the also hard-selling i-Series. Selling the Ascender in Canada was out of the question as Isuzu had already withdrawn from that market.

The Ascender is the only one of the six mid-size SUVs not to be manufactured by a 100% GM brand, as Isuzu was only partially owned by GM until spring 2006. The 7-seater Ascender was no longer offered from 2007 and the V8 engine is no longer available either. Articles in auto magazines warn buyers of a thin dealer network for warranty repairs, and the Kelley Blue Book cites a relatively low resale value, similar to the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. But Isuzu offers a 7-year/75,000-mile powertrain warranty and various other warranties.

Production of the Ascender was discontinued by General Motors on June 6, 2008, as Isuzu withdrew from the US market altogether.
