Datsun 240Z background information

The first model of the new DATSUN 240Z series was presented in October 1969 at a hotel in New York as the successor of Sports model. At work on the new model, stylists were working under the direction of Yoshihiko Matsuo and a group of engineers under Tiiichi Hary. The number in the name means the engine displacement. The car had very good driving properties and guaranteed a high driving comfort thanks to the independent suspension of all wheels. This Japanese car quickly became a hit of the American market, and the waiting time reached for half a year. Within 4 years, DATSUNA 240Z production was sold in the amount of 156 076 of this vehicle.

In Japan, cars were sold exclusively through the Nissan Bluebird Store salons.

In the following years, a less popular version with a 3-speed, automatic transmission was introduced.
