Chevrolet Silverado background information
Chevrolet Silverado – a full-size pickup truck, manufactured by Chevrolet since 1998, has replaced the Chevrolet C / K.
Chevrolet Silverado won the North American Truck of the Year competition in 2008.
The first generation of GMT800 (1998-2007)
The first generation Chevrolet Silverado hit the assembly line in June 1998, replacing the Chevrolet C / K. There were 2 models: ordinary (Light Duty) and heavy (Heavy Duty) with three types of cabins and three types of loading platform. The pickup was based on the GMT800 platform with a two-link suspension at the front and a dependent spring suspension at the rear.
The heavy version was introduced in 2001.
In 2003 and 2005 the model was restyled.
Second generation GMT900 (2007-2014)
The second generation Chevrolet Silverado was introduced in 2007. In the same year 2007, the pickup became the North American Car and Truck of the Year.
The car moved to the GMT900 platform. The upgrade slightly affected the steel frame and suspension. The design has changed significantly, aerodynamics have improved, the interior has become more expensive. And the former motors gave way to new generation units. As before, the base version was V6 4.3 (197 hp, 353 Nm), and more expensive modifications were satisfied with atmospheric V8 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 (299-409 hp, 414-565 Nm). By 2014, 4.2 million Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups had been sold.
Third generation GMTK2XX (2013-2019)
In January 2013, the third generation Chevrolet Silverado together with GMC Sierra was presented at the North American International Motor Show in Detroit. The new K2XX platform, high-strength steel frame, lightweight body with aluminum hood – and brutal design with tons of chrome in the exterior. And how the interior has changed! Became richer in appearance and finishing materials, significantly expanded the list of equipment, including a multimedia system MyLink with Bose audio system.
Cars of the light series 1500 are completed with petrol engines of the EcoTec3 family: V6 of 4.3 l with a power of 285 hp, V8 of 5.3 l with a power of 355 hp. and a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp. On the car of a heavy series 2500HD and 3500HD install the petrol engine V8 of 6,0 l Vortec with a power of 360 hp. and turbodiesel V8 6.6 l Duramax with 397 hp. Fourth generation GMTT1XX (2018-present)
On January 15, 2018, the fourth generation Chevrolet Silverado will be presented at the North American International Motor Show in Detroit. Sales of the pickup will begin in the fall of 2018.
The car is built on the new T1XX platform. The length of the body added 41 mm (up to 5263 mm in the base version), and the wheelbase – 100 mm (up to 3123 mm). The width of the cargo compartment has also increased from 1295 mm to 1473 mm. After that, the volume of the base box behind the cabin reached 1784 liters instead of the former 1512 liters. The developers claim to reduce the curb weight – up to 204 kg, depending on the version. The contribution was made by the frame, which is 80% made of high-strength steels (plus 10% to torsional rigidity) and weighs 40 kg less than before. The same amount was saved on the hood, doors and tailgate, which are now aluminum.
