Here is a little history about BMW 8 Series
BMW 8, or BMW 8 Series – cars of the Gran Turismo class series. Produced from 1989 to 1999. The second-generation model debuted in 2018.
First-generation (E31; 1989–1999)
The first-generation BMW 8 Series (index E31) was produced from 1989 to 1999. The model replaced the 6th series in the E24 body. The car was to compete with the SL models and the S-Class coupe from Mercedes-Benz. The coupe was designed for 4 passengers (2 + 2) in contrast to the Mercedes-Benz SL (R129), which was a roadster.
A total of 30,621 first-generation BMW 8 Series cars were produced from 1989 to 1999.
Second generation (G14 / G15 / G16; 2018 – present)
On May 26, 2017, at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event, the Germans showed the BMW Concept 8 Series concept car. The debut of the second-generation BMW 8 Series (factory index G15 for the coupe version and G14 for the convertible) took place in Frankfurt in autumn 2017. Production of the G15 coupe was established in Dingolfing, where the seventh series is being built. The coupe entered the market in November 2018. In 2019, customers were offered convertibles.
The model is based on the modular platform CLAR. The length of the compartment will exceed five meters, the wheelbase will only slightly reach three meters. The body structure will consist of high-strength steel, aluminium alloys and carbon fibre. The car will receive the following modifications 840d, 840i, M850, M8 / M8 Competition.
In the list of options for the coupe we expect all-wheel drive, “cork” autopilot, fully steered chassis and active rear differential.
The BMW M8 will receive a non-alternative all-wheel drive M xDrive from the BMW M5.
The list of standard equipment includes: automatic braking system, iDrive 7.0 multimedia system with a 10.25-inch touch screen, navigation, Internet access and Microsoft Office 365 and Skype, virtual dashboard, windshield projection and LED headlights. The list of options includes an active safety system with autopilot features, a car park that does not require a driver behind the wheel, and a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with a power of 1375 watts in February.
The default in the eighth series – leather trim (Merino) and seats (Vernasca), electric adjustments and seat ventilation.
