Lincoln Blackwood background information

The Lincoln Blackwood was a full-size pickup truck sold in the United States and Mexico from 2001-2002, but was withdrawn in late 2002 due to poor sales, making it the shortest-produced Lincoln model.

In contrast to most previous Lincoln models, the Blackwood was not produced in Michigan but in Missouri; the design is by Patrick Schiavone.

The Blackwood was based on the Ford F-150, with design cues from the Lincoln Navigator.

When unveiled at the 1999 North American International Auto Show, the Blackwood caused quite a stir as Lincoln unveiled the first ever full-size pickup truck, a vehicle type he co-founded with its successor, the Lincoln Mark LT, and competitor, the Cadillac Escalade EXT.

Lincoln planned to sell 18,000 Blackwoods in 2002 and 2003, but only 3,356 total were sold in 15 months because it was too expensive and impractical. This resulted in Lincoln withdrawing the Blackwood from the US market before the end of the 2002 model year. There were also delivery problems with the lock for the loading area cover produced by Magna Steyr, which delayed the delivery of the vehicles.
