Fiat Punto background information
Fiat Punto – compact hatchbacks manufactured by Fiat since 1993 and replaced the Fiat Uno model.
A total of 3.429 million cars of the first, 2.96 million of the second and 2.67 million of the third generation Fiat Punto were produced.
Fiat Punto I (Type 176) (1993—1999)
In 1993, the first generation Fiat Punto was introduced in Turin. The car was offered as a 3- and 5-door hatchback and convertible. In 1995, the Punto was named Car of the Year. In 1996, the Punto was the best-selling car in Europe.
The design of the car was developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Punto was Fiat’s first small car to galvanize important body parts.
In 1997, the model was upgraded.
In total, more than 3,500,000 first-generation cars have been produced.
Fiat Punto II (Type 188) (1999—2012)
The second generation was introduced in 1999 to mark the 100th anniversary of Fiat. The car was offered as a 3- and 5-door hatchback. In 2001, a version of the Abarth with a 1.8 16-class engine was introduced. 131 hp and less weight.
In 2003, the model was updated, changing the appearance and equipment.
In June 2005, the number of Fiat Punto produced exceeded six million. Even after the release of subsequent generations, this model continued to be produced in Serbia at the Zastava plant, and until 2008 it was produced as the Zastava 10.
In total, more than 5,000,000 second-generation cars have been produced.
Fiat Punto III (Type 199) (2005—2018)
The third-generation Fiat Punto has been named the Fiat Grande Punto, the highest EuroNCAP safety rating, awarded the title of “Best Compact” and the “Golden Steering Wheel” award in Germany. Punto debuted in Frankfurt, created on a common platform with the Opel Corsa C, so these cars connect up to 30% of the total spare parts, and the design in the style of Maserati was developed by Ital Design. The salon was created by Fiat’s own design studio. It surpasses its predecessor Punto in size and finish. With dimensions of 4030x1690x1490 mm, it has become more practical. The hatchback is characterized by a balanced ride and build quality. Diesel and petrol power units can be found under the hood of the car. At 4,030 mm, it is the longest in Sector B. The cabin can accommodate five adults. The rear seat is designed for three passengers. The hatchback is available in 3- and 5-door versions. Both versions are equipped with an adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel.
