Dodge Dakota background information

Dodge Dakota is a mid-size pickup truck manufactured by Dodge since 1987.

The first generation (1987-1996)

The first generation debuted on the market in 1987. Based on the Chrysler N platform. Wheelbase ranged from 2842 to 3325 mm depending on the version. Engines used P4 (2.2 liters, 2.5 liters), V6 (3.9 liters) and V8 (5.2 liters). Torque is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 3- or 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission, drive – rear wheels (AWD option). The car was offered with a short and long two-door cab and as a convertible.

Second generation (1997-2004)

The second generation Dodge Dakota was manufactured in 1997-2004. It is based on the same bottom as the previous one. The wheelbase ranged from 2842 to 3327 mm. The range of engines included 3.9 liters V6, 4.9 liters V8 and 5.9 liters V8.

Based on the pickup in 1998, the Dodge Durango SUV was introduced.

Third generation (2005-2011)

In 2005, the next generation of medium-sized Dakota pickups (4×2 / 4×4) was launched, equipped with new types of powertrains and accessories. They are equipped with two types of Magnum gasoline engines – V6 (3.7 liters, 210 hp) and V8 (4.7 liters, 230 hp), the former mechanical 5-speed transmission, as well as a new 6-speed or automatic 5-speed. As before, the pickup is offered with three basic versions of cabs (short, extended and double 5-seater), but the use of the Mega Cab option is not yet provided. All versions are offered in three sets and equipment ST, SLT and Laramie, which differ in the degree of saturation of additional equipment and the level of its quality.
