Daihatsu YRV background information
Daihatsu YRV – Sports 5-door subcompact. The name of the machine consists of the first letters of words: Youthful, Robust, Vivid.
Daihatsu YRV built on the Daihatsu Storia car platform (Toyota Duet). Just like Daihatsu Storia, the body length of the Daihatsu YRV is equal to only 3675 mm, but it is slightly wider and higher. The exterior of the car is characterized by a pronounced “double wedge” form, also despite its size, the car looks quite modern and dynamically, as confirmed by the technical characteristics. The body is distinguished by extreme rigidity and passive safety. First, 1.0-liter 3-cylinder 12-valve engine with a capacity of 64 hp (EJ-VE) was installed on the cars. The more powerful model was equipped with a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 90 hp. (K3-ve). Both Motors are equipped with a system of changing phases of DVVT timing (Dynamic Variable Valve Timing), which was created in collaboration with Toyota engineers. Daihatsu YRV was released both with front-wheel drive (2WD) and with a full drive (4WD). In 2001, at the Geneva Motor Show, the YRV Turbo model with a 4-speed hydromechanical “machine” type ESAT was presented, which, thanks to electronic control, provides the perfect combination of fuel economy and dynamic car characteristics. Electronic automatic control allowed manual control of the transmission buttons on the steering wheel (SHIFTRONIC). The power of a 1,3-liter motor using turbocharging increased from 90 to 140 hp. (K3-VET) that brought YRV among the most powerful models in Europe class V. in the standard equipment of Daihatsu YRV GTTI, which is sold in Europe, includes two frontal and four side airbags. Only two front airbags were installed in the Japanese version of the car, 6 airbags were available as options, the rate stability, anti-pass system and climatt control. All Daihatsu cars for Europe were made of galvanized metal.
