Chery A5 / Chery A520 / Chery Elara/ Chery Fora / Chery Estina/ Speranza A516: background information
Chery A5 is a front-wheel drive five-seater C class sedan. Chery A5 in Russia was produced under the names Chery Fora (Avtotor from 2007 to 2008) and Vortex Estina (from 2008 to 2014) at the TagAZ plant in Taganrog. In the Ukrainian market, the car was called Chery Elara. Chery A5, as well as the Chery Kimo model, can already be regarded as an independent Chery project.
At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, 40 hybrid Chery A5s will take part.
Three engines of different sizes are used:
- SQR481F – 1.6L four-cylinder DOHC 16V with a displacement of 1597 cm³ and a power of 87.5 kW (119 hp).
- SQR484F – 2.0L four-cylinder DOHC 16V with a displacement of 1971 cm³ and an output of 95 kW (129 hp).
- SQR477F – 1.5L four-cylinder SOHC 16V with a displacement of 1497 cm³ and an output of 80 kW (109 hp).
The engines are mounted transversely at the front of the vehicle and drive the front wheels. The engines have four cylinders and 16 valves. The engine housing is cast from aluminum, which gives a gain of about 15 kg. Gasoline engines comply with the Euro-4 environmental standard. Chery motors of the ACTECO family are produced at the newest (opened only in 2006) modern enterprise. At the international automobile exhibition SIA in 2008, the Chery Elara Hybrid was presented with a 1.3 16V gasoline engine (65 kW) and an electric motor (15 kW). This vehicle is under development.
