Audi RS 4
Audi RS4 is a five-seater sports car assembled by the German company Audi based on serial models since 1999.
Audi RS4 B5 (1999—2001)
The first RS4 appeared in late 1999 – it was the Audi RS4 Avant, based on the Audi A4 station wagon. It was even faster and had a huge tuning potential, as a result of which in our time there is almost no RS4 Avant in the factory. The 2.7-litre V6 engine, equipped with two turbines, produced 381 hp. and 440 Nm of torque. Audi developed this unit together with the well-known company Cosworth. But despite the high power, it reached the “hundreds” 0.1 seconds slower than the RS2 Avant – 4.9 seconds. Top speed was electronically limited to 250 km / h, but the speedometer’s arrow flew “200” just 17 seconds after the start.
Audi RS4 B7 (2005—2009)
The second Audi RS4 was the second in the biography of RS-sedans, after the Audi RS6. It appeared in 2005 and was already equipped with a 4.2-litre V8 FSI engine combined with a six-speed “mechanics” manufactured by Getrag. The 420-horsepower car reached “hundreds” in 4.8 seconds, and acceleration from standstill to 200 km / h took only 16.6.
Moreover, the RS4 family has become the most massive in the history of RS-models: not only a sedan was available, but also a traditional RS station wagon, and in 2006 they were joined by a convertible with a soft top.
Audi RS4 B8 (2012—2015)
In February 2012, a virtual presentation of the third generation Audi RS4 Avant took place. The production model is presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012, sales will begin in the fall.
Under the hood is an atmospheric V8 from the Audi RS5 coupe. The direct-injection engine, equipped with a forged crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods, develops the same 450 forces and 430 Nm. This allows the novelty, equipped with a seven-band “robot” S Tronic (there are no other options), to accelerate to a hundred in 4.7 seconds.
The all-wheel-drive transmission in the Audi RS4 Avant is similar to that of the Audi RS 5 – all-wheel drive with an asymmetrical differential with bevel gears. By default, the thrust is in the ratio of 40 to 60%, but in some conditions, the front can be fed up to 70% of the torque, and the stern-up to 85. Suspensions – double wishbones at the front and multi-link at the rear. But for the RS4 Avant, they adjusted the geometry, installed springs and active shock absorbers with other characteristics, reduced the ground clearance by 20 mm (compared to the usual five-door Audi A4). By default, the car is equipped with brake mechanisms with six-piston callipers and 365-millimetre discs on the front axle. Option – carbon-ceramic brakes with 380 mm discs.
