The Audi A5 is a family of cars represented by the 2007 German carmaker Audi.
The first generation
Audi A5 (type AU484) – a variant of the 4th generation Audi A4 (B8) in a coupe body. The release of the A5 marked the return of Audi to the mid-size coupe market, in which Audi was represented until 1996 by the Audi Coupé (B3 / B4), based on the Audi 80.
The Audi A5 debuted on the new Audi MLP (Modular Longitudinal Platform), which was planned as the basis for the next generations of the Audi A4, A6 and A8. The platform is remarkable in that it departs from the “hanging” position of the engine in front of the front axle, now the engine is located behind it, this is done to achieve a more even distribution of weight (52:48) between the front and rear axles.
Audi A5 – the third coupe in the Audi lineup, along with the second generation TT and R8. The A5 borrowed a number of elements from the Nuvolari quattro concept. The A5 debuted with a 3.2-liter FSI V6 engine with 261 hp. (195 kW).
On December 3, 2008 the A5 and S5 were introduced in the Cabriolet body (type AU485), the cars debuted at the Detroit Motor Show in 2009. The A5 Cabriolet replaced the Audi A4 convertible.
In September 2009, the five-door hatchback A5 Sportback was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
In July 2011, Audi introduced an upgraded version of the A5, which debuted on November 5, 2011.
The second generation
The second-generation Audi A5 (index F5) debuted in early 2016. The car is built on the MLB-Evo platform together with the new Audi A4. The sports modification of the Audi RS5 will debut in 2017.
The 2016 Audi A5 Convertible is a hinged version of the A5 coupe. The Audi A5 coupe version looks very stylish, and both models (coupe and convertible) are fun to drive and behave confidently on the track. The car has a flexible control that turns the driving process into entertainment. The ride is confident and steady at the same time. The elegant exterior stylization of form and finish, as well as the interior of fine work – the attractive features of the Audi A5.
The flexible steering of the Audi A5 and the quick reaction to the movements of the steering wheel makes the ride a complete pleasure. Body deviations are almost invisible when cornering, and the small effort required to turn the steering wheel at low speeds increases when you determine the optimal driving mode for you at high speeds. The all-wheel-drive system works clearly. When tested on the road, in the conditions of work at the limit of its capabilities, Audi A5 demonstrated stability and safety at high speeds. Also, the car showed good speed when manoeuvring in critical situations, but sharp skidding on corners reduces drivers’ self-confidence.
Audi has updated the A5 for the 2021 model year. The car received a new standard engine with 201 hp, which accelerates to 100 km / h in 6.4 seconds. From 2021, all Audi A5 equipment is equipped with Apple CarPlay.
