Mini Coupe background information
The Mini Coupé is a sporty, two-seater compact car produced by the British car manufacturer Mini. It was launched in October 2011 and sold in Germany until 2015.
With the Coupé, Mini has produced a vehicle with an eye-catching design. A study of the vehicle was presented at the IAA in 2009. The look is largely determined by the vehicle’s roof, which Mini design director Gert Hildebrand said was inspired by a baseball cap worn backwards. Around March 2012, a variant with a fabric roof also appeared as a roadster; its fabric roof has a heated glass rear window. Both models were made in Oxford. In 2015, the coupe and roadster were discontinued without replacement.
The vehicle is 3.73 meters long, the windscreen has been slanted compared to the mini hatchback and the rear window is flatter, both measures which, however, impair the view. The trunk of the coupe holds 280 liters. The car looks sportier due to the low center of gravity and the low overall height (almost two centimeters less than the hatchback); objectively, 63% (John Cooper Works model) of the mass rests on the front axle. The chassis with aluminum links at the front and multi-link axle at the rear corresponds to that of the mini station wagon. The lower center of gravity and body reinforcements further improve handling.
A special feature is that a rear spoiler extends automatically at 80 km/h; alternatively, it can be extended by pressing a button. It causes 40 kg of downforce.
Mini offered Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper SD and John Cooper Works (JCW) engine variants, each with a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission (not on the JCW).
