Mercury Mystique background information
Mercury Mystique – a middle class passenger car produced under the American brand Mercury in 1994 – 2000.
Mystique has replaced the Model Topaz brand and was created as a fiolet, a more luxurious variety of Ford Contour, i.e. the American Ford Mondeo variety.
It was a front -wheel drive vehicle. Its drive consisted of R4 gasoline engines with a capacity of 2.0 l and 125 HP (in later years: 130 HP) or V6 with a capacity of 2.5 l and 170 HP. Mystique was available in versions with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic.
In 1998, the car underwent a thorough modernization, under which new, more round headlights, remodeled rear lamps and modified bumpers appeared. Modernization was to make Mystique like other Mercury cars offered at the time.
In the years 1995–1997 the car appeared every year on the list of the 10 best cars according to the Car and Driver magazine. However, he did not gain much popularity due to the small dimensions for his class. A small amount of space for passengers at the back of the vehicle was particularly criticized. The facelift version, in addition to cosmetic changes, was introduced for sale in 1998, was extended by 3 cm to improve driving comfort.
In 1999, 39,531 copies of the Mystique model were sold in the United States, and in the last, 2000 – 16 208.
