Isuzu Axiom background information

The Isuzu Axiom is a passenger car produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Isuzu between 2001 and 2004.

The car was anticipated by the ZXS concept car presented at the New York Motor Show in 2001.

Derived from the Rodeo, it was to compete with the Toyota Highlander, replacing the Trooper as the largest vehicle sold by Isuzu in the United States. The name “Axiom” was chosen on the basis of a competition held by Isuzu.

Sold exclusively in the United States and Costa Rica, the Axiom was assembled together with the Rodeo at the Lafayette, Indiana plant. The Axiom was replaced in 2004 by the Isuzu Ascender which was derived from the Chevrolet TrailBlazer.

The Axiom had two trim levels: base and XS. The latter had fog lights, sunroof, heated front seats, auto-dimming mirror, audio system with 12 speakers and leather upholstery.

In 2004 the car underwent an update, with the introduction of a 6VE1-DI V6 direct injection engine and an Aisin Warner AW30-40LS automatic transmission. In addition, a new front grille with chrome bar and a new tailgate was introduced.

Production of the Axiom was suspended in July 2004 after three years of production and the Lafayette plant was refurbished to allow assembly of the Subaru B9 Tribeca.
