Mercury Capri background information

Mercury Capri described several different models of displaced or manufactured models by the US automobile manufacturer Mercury.

Capri (1970–1978)

The US versions of the European Ford Capri, which were built exclusively in the Cologne plant, received double headlights, changed bumper and wore no brand emblem; They were officially marketed as “Capri Imported for Lincoln-Mercury”-the sale was carried out, as well as at the de Tomaso Pantera. After the VW Käfer, the Capri was temporarily the best -selling import model in the United States. Ford / Mercury Capri (1978–1986)

In autumn 1978, the largely identical Mercury Capri appeared as a parallel model for the new Ford Mustang; Only the front section and smaller details were changed. Like the simultaneous Mustang, the Capri was based on the FORD FAIRSTONT in the Group, while the previous model in Europe was resolved at the same time. During its entire construction period, the Capri was only available as a three-door flow rear coupé with a large tailgate; As a two-door step back coupe, it was offered as a Ford Capri, there was no convertible like the Mustang.
