Land Rover Freelander background information
Land Rover Freelander is a Land Rover British SUV manufactured from 1997 to 2014.
The project of a compact crossover under the brand Land Rover originates in the late 1980s. The maternal company Rover Group, which belonged to Land Rover, conducted a marketing research that gave a green light for the future model under the code marking Freelander CB40. However, at that time, there was no money to implement the idea in Rover, and the British began to look for a assistant partner. The necessary material resources appeared only in 1994, when the Concern BMW bought a bankrupt company Rover Group.
Basically, German money went to the preparation of a factory conveyor in Solichelly, and the development of a car that lasted more than three years, engaged in English engineers.
First generation (1997-2006)
The debut model took place in 1997. It was a non-typical Land Rover: a holder body, McPherson racks in a circle, a full drive with a viscomflut in the drive axle, no blocking or lowering transmission. In addition, initially the British lubricated with the motors: Freelander was not sufficient to give to such an equipped mass (1425 kg) gasoline “Four” 1.8 (120 hp) and 98-strong turbodiesel 2.0 TDI (both units of Ravorovskiy).
Second generation (2006-2014)
The car presented in 2006 can be completed with two engines – a number of six-cylinder engine volume of 3.2 liters and a capacity of 233 horsepower and a four-cylinder turbodiesel volume of 2.2 liters and a capacity of 160 horsepower. The gasoline engine provides an acceleration to 100 km / h for 8.9 seconds and a marginal speed of 200 km / h. Fuel consumption – 11.2 liters per 100 kilometers. The engine is aggregated with a new six-point automatic gearbox with a manual switching and sports mode. The engine is set to transversely affected the domestic volume and safety of the car. The diesel engine also develops a peak torque of 400 nm, picking up from the bottom (200 nm already at 1000 rpm). The average fuel consumption rate is 7.5 liters per 100 km.
