Daihatsu Sigra background information

The Daihatsu Sigra is a minivan type car produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Daihatsu from 2016. It is also marketed by Toyota with the Toyota Callaya denomination.

The car is a low-cost minivan built on the base frame of the small Daihatsu Ayla, the flexible DGAP platform (acronym do Daihatsu Global A-Segment Platform) used by the Daihatsu City Car and is a classic front-wheel drive structure with MacPherson suspension to Front while a twisted bridge suspension is adopted with a stabilizer bar available only on top range models. The brakes are anterior disc and rear drum.

It was developed specifically for the Indonesian market, where the requests for seven-seater minivans are high and is also sold by Toyota as Toyota Callaya. The car also includes the special classification of the “Low Cost Green Car” of the Indonesian government enjoying tax breaks. Production takes place in the Karawang plant of the Astra Daihatsu Motor with 94% of local components.

The Sigra was anticipated by the three Concept Car Daihatsu UFC, UFC2 and UFC 3 which were shown respectively in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The production model was presented, together with the Toyota brand version, at the 24th International Car Exhibition by Gaikindo in Indonesia on 11 August 2016.

The engine range is composed of the 1.0 petrol engine (998 cc) three-cylinder 1kr-ve dohc 12 valves with variable variable timing vvt-i dispensing 67 horses combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a larger 1.2 petrol (1,197 cc) four 3NR-VE DOHC-line cylinders 16 valves with 88 horsepower DUAL VVT-i system combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic.
