Chevrolet Caprice background information

The Chevrolet Caprice is an American full-size passenger car manufactured by GM Chevrolet from 1966 to 1996. In 1965, there was a complete set of Chevrolet Impala – Chevrolet Impala Caprice, for the next model year allocated to an independent line of Chevrolet cars.

It was the most expensive Chevrolet car until 1994, when its sporty modification, called the old Impala SS, appeared. From 1965 to 1985, the cheaper model Chevrolet Impala was produced, in addition, until 1975, even cheaper model Chevrolet Bel Air was produced, and until 1972 – the cheapest model Biscayne.

All cars with the name Caprice were technically related to each other and had a common platform (GM B-Platform), in particular, a common frame (after 1977 it was somewhat shortened due to the reduction in size of the car as a whole).

After the cessation of production of the Chevrolet Caprice in 1996, the only traditional American full-size sedan remained the Ford Crown Victoria.

In 2011, Chevrolet returned the Caprice to North America as a rear-wheel drive police car, but some dealers will also sell it to individuals. The new Chevrolet Caprice is a facelift of Holden Caprice, an Australian Holden company that is also part of General Motors.
