Toyota Alphard / Vellfire background information
Toyota Alphard is a five-door minivan manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation since May 2002. Named after the bright star Alfard in the constellation Hydra.
The manufacturer is positioned as a minivan of the highest class. It is completed with a forward or all-wheel drive, an automatic transmission or a variator and engines in volume of 2,4, 2,5, 3,0 or 3,5 liters depending on generation.
The first generation (2002-2008)
The Toyota Alphard debuted in May 2002 to compete with the Nissan Elgrand and Honda Elysion. The model was delivered to the market with a full power package, great comfort and safety, which helped make Alphard the best-selling MPV in Japan.
In 2005, the Alphard was updated, the model received a new rear lamp design and new 16 “and 17” alloy wheels. A hybrid version is also presented.
Actor Jean Reno has appeared on Japanese television commercials for the Toyota Alphard.

Second generation (2008-2015)
In April 2008, the second generation Alphard was introduced with a more modern design and a more luxurious interior. For this generation, the Alphard line has been expanded in two different design options – Alphard and Vellfire.
According to a Toyota press release, the Alphard is described as a car that has an elegant and refined design while the Vellfire emphasizes strength and strong individuality. Both models are sold through separate distribution channels, Alphard is sold by Toyota in the Toyopet dealer network while Vellfire is sold through the youth-oriented dealer network Netz.
The second generation Alphard went into production in the Philippines on August 3, 2010.
The facelift model has been announced by Toyota Motor Co. September 27, 2011, for the Japanese market, starting November 1, 2011 also introduced a hybrid version of Alphard and Vellfire.

Third generation (2015-present)
Toyota released the third generation Alphard on January 26, 2015 with a new look and new features such as a new 2.5-liter gasoline engine, a 2.5-liter gasoline hybrid engine. A new top-of-the-line Executive Lounge class has been added for both Alphard and Vellfire. The third generation Alphard is currently available in Japan and some Asian markets in Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Hong Kong, and more recently in Russia.
The new generation is characterized by a very large grille, similar to the current Toyota Crown model. The length has increased by 60 mm, the width by 20 m, and the wheelbase has increased by 50 mm, and the height is shorter by 10 mm compared to the previous generation. Alphard faces competition from large MPVs such as the Nissan Elgrand and the fifth-generation Honda Odyssey (JDM and Asian models).
