Lexus LS background information
Lexus LS is a full-size executive sedan, produced since 1989 as the flagship model of the Japanese automaker Lexus. All LS models were fitted with V8 configuration engines and rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, as well as hybrid variants and models with a long wheelbase.
The first generation of the LS 400, developed by Lexus, was introduced in January 1989, the second generation in November 1994, and the third generation LS 430 appeared in January 2000. The LS 400 and LS 430 versions for the domestic Japanese market, called the Toyota Celsior, were sold in Japan before sales under the Lexus brand in 2006. In 2006, the fourth-generation LS 460 was introduced, becoming the first production car with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In 2007, the LS 600h / LS 600h L sedan was also fitted with a V8 hybrid engine.
Development of the model began in 1983 as a project of a secret flagship sedan codenamed F1. More than $ 1 billion has been spent in the long five-year process of designing the executive sedan. The car was originally conceived as export-oriented, and it was the Lexus division that was created internationally. The launch of the LS 400 was very responsible, as the Lexus brand itself was born at the same time.
