Honda Passport background information

Honda Passport is a medium-sized SUV based on the Isuzu Rodeo. The car was introduced in 1993, when Honda first entered the US SUV market. The Passport was manufactured at the Subaru Isuzu Automotive plant in Lafayette, Indiana.

Passport was part of a partnership between Isuzu and Honda in the 1990s, when Honda cars for Isuzu, such as Isuzu Oasis, and Isuzu SUVs for Honda, such as Passport and Acura SLX, were produced. The deal was convenient for both companies, as Isuzu discontinued passenger car production in 1993 following a corporate restructuring, and Honda felt the need for the SUV segment, which was popular in North America and Japan during the 1990s. The partnership ended in 2002 with the cessation of production of the Passport and the start of production of its own Honda Pilot SUV.

In 2019, the name Passport was renewed to denote the crossovers that occupy space between the Honda CR-V and Honda Pilot.
