Suspension & Steering
| PNEUMATIC (AIR) SUSPENSION SYSTEM |
TESTING
Sedan, Coupe, Loyale, XT, Wagon and Brat
See Figures 1 and 2
Fig. 1:
Vehicle height sensor harness terminal identification
 |
Fig. 2:
Check for continuity at these positions
 |
- Disconnect the height sensor wire harness at the air shock.
- Disconnect air shock line and bleed air from the shock.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between the terminals of the height sensor side of the wire harness.
- While using the ohmmeter, compress and extend the shock, and observe when there is continuity.
- If not as specified replace or repair the height sensor.
Legacy and Impreza
See Figures 3 and 4
Fig. 3:
Disconnecting the air line-Front strut
 |
Fig. 4:
Height sensor and air line disconnect from the shock assembly
 |
- Disconnect the air line from the solenoid valve.
- Disconnect the height control wire harness.
- With shock compressed, check that the resistance between terminal 2 and 4 is a minimum of 1 megohm.
- With the shock expanded check that the resistance between terminal 2 and 4 is 0 ohms.
- With the shock compressed, check that the resistance between terminal 2 and 3 is 0 ohms.
- With the shock expanded, check that the resistance between terminal 2 and 3 is a minimum of 1 megohm.
- If not as specified, replace the height sensor.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the height sensor wire harness at the air shock.
- Disconnect the air line, and bleed the air from the strut.
- Remove the strut from the vehicle.
- Remove the height sensor from the top of the strut tower.
To install:
- Install the height sensor into the top of the strut tower. Make sure the sensor is seated evenly.
- Install the strut on to the vehicle.
- Connect the height sensor wire harness at the air shock.
- Connect air shock line and bleed air from the shock.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Start the vehicle, and allow the shock to build up air before driving.
