Engine Electrical
| DISTRIBUTORLESS IGNITION SYSTEM |
The majority of the diagnosis and testing of the distributorless ignition system is performed via the self-diagnosis function of the fuel injection control unit. See Electronic Engine Controls in Section 4 for more information.

Primary Resistance
The coil does not have to be removed from the vehicle to perform this test.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Tag, then remove each spark plug wire from the ignition coil.
- Using a multimeter, check the resistance between spark plug wire connections No. 1 and No. 2. Then check the resistance between spark plug connections No. 3 and No. 4. If the resistance between the connections is between 0.59-0.79 ohms, the coil is within specification. If the resistance is below this amount, replace it.
Secondary Resistance
- Disconnect the negative battery cable, if not already done.
- Tag then remove each spark plug wire from the ignition coil, if not already done.
- Using a multimeter, check the resistance between wire harness connections No. 1 and No. 2. Then check the resistance between wire harness connections No. 2 and No. 3. If the resistance between the connections is between 17-24 kilo-ohms, the coil is within specification. If the resistance is below this amount, replace it.
