PERIODIC MAINTENANCE SERVICES > Engine Oil

INSPECTION

1. GASOLINE ENGINE MODEL

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.

2. Remove the oil level gauge and wipe away the oil.

3. Reinsert the level gauge all the way. Be sure that the level gauge is correctly inserted and in the correct position.

4. Remove the level gauge again and check the oil level. If the engine oil level is below the “L” line, check that there is no oil leakage from the engine, then add oil up to “F” line, being careful not to overfill past this level.

5. Start the engine, and spread the oil in engine room.

6. After turning off the engine, wait a few minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan before checking the level.

7. Just after driving or while the engine is warm, engine oil level shows in the range between the “F” line and the notch mark. This is caused by thermal expansion of engine oil.

8. To prevent overfilling the engine oil, do not add oil above the “F” line when the engine is cold.

2. DIESEL ENGINE MODEL

CAUTION:

If the engine oil is spilt over exhaust pipe or the under cover, wipe it off with cloth to avoid emitting smoke or causing a fire.

1. Drive the vehicle for 5 — 10 km (3 — 6 miles) to raise the engine coolant temperature until the needle of the engine coolant temperature gauge goes up to the middle between Hot and Cold.

2. Park the vehicle on a level surface.

3. Stop the engine and leave it for five minutes.

4. Remove the oil level gauge and wipe away the oil.

5. Insert the oil level gauge all the way.

NOTE:

Be sure that the oil level gauge is correctly inserted and properly orientated.

6. Pull out the oil level gauge again, and check the oil level. If the engine oil level is below “L” line, add oil to bring the level up to “F” line.

7. Drive the vehicle for 5 — 10 km (3 — 6 miles) to raise the engine coolant temperature until the needle of the engine coolant temperature gauge goes up to the middle between Hot and Cold.

8. Park the vehicle on a level surface.

9. Stop the engine and leave it for five minutes.

10. Check the engine oil level.

NOTE:

To prevent overfilling of engine oil, do not add oil above “F” line.
