1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2. Shift the select lever or gear shift lever to neutral.
3. Release the parking brake.
4. Lift up the vehicle.
5. Remove the drain plug, and drain gear oil.

6. Install the drain plug.
NOTE:
• T-type (2.5 L turbo Identification: except for HC model)
Apply liquid gasket to the drain plug.
Liquid gasket:
THREE BOND 1105 (Part No. 004403010) or equivalent
• VA1-type and T-type (2.5 L turbo Identification: HC model)
Use a new gasket.
Tightening torque:
T-type (2.5 L turbo Identification: except for HC model);
49 N·m (5.0 kgf-m, 36.1 ft-lb)
T-type (2.5 L turbo Identification: HC model);
60 N·m (6.1 kgf-m, 44.3 ft-lb)
VA1-type;
50 N·m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)
NOTE:
If the hexagonal wrench can not be used on drain plug, tighten with the following torque.
Tightening torque:
34 N·m (3.5 kgf-m, 25.1 ft-lb)

7. Remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler. (Gasoline engine model)
• Non-turbo model
• Turbo model
8. Remove the exhaust pipe (rear) and muffler. (Diesel engine model)
9. Remove the heat shield cover.
10. Remove the propeller shaft.
11. Remove the self-locking nut while holding the companion flange with ST.

12. Remove the companion flange using ST.

13. Remove the oil seal using ST or screwdriver.

14. Install a new oil seal using ST.
NOTE:
Apply differential oil to the oil seal lip.

15. Install the companion flange.
NOTE:
Use a plastic hammer to install companion flange.
16. Tighten the self-locking nut to the specified torque so that the rotating resistance of the companion flange is the same value as that before replacing the oil seal.

• Use a new self-locking nut.
• Before installing the self-locking nut, apply seal material to self-locking nut threads.
Seal material:
THREE BOND 1324 (Part No. 004403042) or equivalent
Tightening torque:
T-type:
181.5 N·m (18.5 kgf-m, 133.9 ft-lb)
VA1-type:
191 N·m (19.5 kgf-m, 140.9 ft-lb)
17. Hereafter, reassemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
18. After installing, fill the differential carrier with gear oil up to the bottom of the filler plug hole.
