BME050218901205

DTC P0705

Transaxle range (TR) switch circuit malfunction (short circuit)

DETECTION CONDITION

• If two or more range signals are input from TR switch for 5 s or more, the TCM determines that there is a malfunction.
Diagnostic support note:
• This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
• The MIL illuminates if the TCM detects the above malfunction conditions in two consecutive drive cycles.
• PENDING CODE is available above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• The HOLD indicator light flashes.
• The DTC is stored in the TCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• TCM malfunction.
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between TR switch terminal A and TCM terminal 2B
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between TR switch terminal E and TCM terminal 1W
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between TR switch terminal D and TCM terminal 1T
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between TR switch terminal G and TCM terminal 1Z
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between TR switch terminal I and TCM terminal 1AA
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between TR switch terminal F and TCM terminal 2C
• Damaged connector between TR switch and TCM
• TR switch malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
• Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME PID DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Verify related Service Bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability.
• Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
• If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY CURRENT INPUT SIGNAL STATUS-IS CONCERN INTERMITTENT OR CONSTANT?
• Connect volt meter to TCM.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (engine off).
• Inspect the TCM terminal voltage.
- TCM terminal 2B
• P position: B+
• Other positions and all ranges: 0 V
- TCM terminal 1W
• R position: B+
• Other positions and all ranges: 0 V
- TCM terminal 1T
- N position: B+
- Other positions and all ranges: 0 V
- TCM terminal 1Z
• D range: B+
• Other ranges and all positions: 0 V
- TCM terminal 1AA
• S range: B+
• Other ranges and all positions: 0 V
- TCM terminal 2C
• L range: B+
• Other ranges and all position: 0 V
• Are two or more of following terminal voltage at the same time when shifting selector lever from the P position to L range?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the intermittent concern troubleshooting procedure.
4
INSPECT TR SWITCH CONNECTOR
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the TR switch connector.
• Inspect the pins for bent terminals using a mirror.
• Are the TR switch terminals normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair the terminals or replace the TR switch, then go to Step 8.
5
INSPECT TR SWITCH CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (engine off).
• Does the TCM terminal voltage change from B+ to 0 V when the TR switch connector is disconnected?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 7.
6
INSPECT TR SWITCH CONTINUITY
• Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
• Disconnect the TR switch connector.
• Inspect the TR switch for continuity in positions/ranges failed in Step 4.
• Is there continuity between the TR switch terminals (part side)?
Yes
Go to Step 8.
No
Replace the TR switch, then go to Step 8.
7
INSPECT TR SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (engine off).
• Measure the voltage at TR switch terminal A, E, D, G, I, and F (wiring harness-side).
• Is there 0 V at the TR switch wiring harness-side connector?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness, then go to the next step.
8
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0705 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Clear the DTC from the TCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (engine off).
• Drive the vehicle in each range (P, R, N, D, S, and L) for 5 s or more.
• Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the TCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the "After Repair Procedure".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
