ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATION INSPECTION [MZR-CD (RF Turbo)]
BME010300103298
Intake Shutter Valve Operation Inspection
1. Start the engine and warm up completely.
2. Turn off the A/C switch.
3. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
4. Monitor the following PIDs using the WDS or equivalent.
-
- If not as specified, inspect each sensor and related wiring harness.
-
ECT PID
-
Above 60 °C {140 °F}
-
MAF PID
1.7-1.9 V
-
RPM PID
725-825 rpm
-
Note
-
• The position of the shutter valve, the VSC shutter valve and the EGR valve may not be as specified when idle speed is maintained for several minutes. If this occurs, briefly increase engine speed to 1,500 rpm and then re-check the position at idle speed.
5. Increase the engine speed and inspect that the intake shutter valve position changes as specified.
-
• If not as specified, inspect the following.
-
- Vacuum hose
-
- Intake shutter solenoid valve actuator
-
- Intake shutter solenoid valve and related wiring harness

Main Fan/Additional Fan Motor Operation Inspection
1. Verify that the engine is cold.
2. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
3. Turn the engine switch to the ON position.
4. Turn the A/C switch off.
5. Verify that the main fan/additional fan are not operating.
-
• If the main fan/additional fan are operated, verify FAN_DUTY PID using the WDS or equivalent.
-
- If FAN_DUTY PID is not 0%, inspect following PIDs.
-
• ECT (voltage)
-
• AC_REQ
-
- If FAN_DUTY PID is 0%, inspect the following.
-
• Fan control module
-
• Open/short to GND circuit between fan control module and PCM
-
Note
-
• The main fan and additional fan do not rotate when FAN_DUTY PID is lower than 30% by fan motor internal friction.
6. Verify that both main fan and additional fan operation speed increases in accordance with FAN_DUTY PID changes.
-
• If there is a problem, perform the following steps.
-
(1) Verify clicking sound of fan relay when turning the engine switch from off to the ON position.
-
• If there is no clicking sound, inspect the following.
-
- Fan relay
-
- Open circuit between main relay and fan relay
-
• If clicking sound is heard, go to the next step.
-
(2) Inspect the following parts in order, and in accordance with the fan operating condition.
-
• Both main fan and additional fan do not operate.
-
- Open circuit between fan control module and fan relay
-
- Open circuit in fan control module GND wiring harness
-
- Poor connection of fan control module connector
-
- Fan control module
-
• Only main fan does not operate.
-
- Open/short to GND circuit between fan control module and main fan motor
-
- Poor connection of fan control module connector and/or main fan motor connector
-
- Main fan motor malfunction
-
- Fan control module
-
• Only additional fan does not operate.
-
- Open/short to GND circuit between fan control module and additional fan motor
-
- Poor connection of fan control module connector and/or additional fan motor connector
-
- Additional fan motor malfunction
-
- Fan control module
